Neil Barrett Fall 2019 Ready-To-Wear Collection Review

While other designers celebrate 20 years in fashion with a retrospective collection, Neil Barrett does the opposite and further pushes style forward into the 21st century. This season, he's channeling the rebellious spirit of punk within the maximalist styles of the millennials.

---------------------------------------------------------------

may have been around for two decades now— was a sort of 20th Anniversary event—but he’s still able to capture the zeitgeist of the now, even when he’s influenced by the past. Such was most evident at his latest extravaganza in Milan Fashion Week: a celebration of punk and the audacity of youth. Although he insists that this is all about that groundbreaking underground look of the late 20th century, it’s more of the spirit of punk that was peppered unto this new offering. In essence, most of his looks, particularly the menswear, were still tailored to perfection. But pairing them with t-shirts instead of collared-up button downs and decorating them with different graphics was the punk approach that was all too familiar. The youthfulness of today came out in the maximalist touches in some of the outfits, especially the leopard and plaid prints that were layered over suits and dresses. It had a rebellious tinge to it that’s extremely millennial and is likely to attract them when these clothes hit the stores come fall!
